How to remove metadata from a PDF
- 1 Open the tool at pdfdistrict.com/remove-metadata/ and select your PDF.
- 2 Review the list. The tool shows the title, author, subject, keywords, creator, producer, dates and whether XMP metadata is present.
- 3 Remove. Click “Remove Metadata.” A clean copy downloads; your original is unchanged.
What metadata a PDF carries
| Field | What it can reveal |
|---|---|
| Author, Creator | Your name or the program you used |
| Producer | The software that made the PDF |
| Creation and modification dates | When the file was made and last changed |
| Title, Subject, Keywords | Descriptive text, sometimes the original file name |
| XMP metadata | A second, richer block of the same kind of information |
What this does not remove
It removes document metadata, not page content: a name written on a page stays. It does not edit embedded images (which can carry their own data) or attachments. To remove a page with sensitive content, delete the page.
PDFDistrict is a free, browser-based PDF toolkit that processes files locally — files are never uploaded.
